Mirrors unto ourselves ;part three

 the people in our lives
Having pointed out that  people are mirrors unto ourselves then we must ask ourselves what is the reason for things being like so.People come into our lives for a reason  and for a season .They come to teach us or help us and viceversa.Sometimes we are the teachers or the helpers and sometimes they teach us and help us.
They are those who will come and stay for only a short while yet  during that time they transform our lives or make an impact that change us forever.Others come and help us see opportunities or even open doors for us. They are those who will come and  become a source of discomfort or pain for us.Maybe its a new boss or a new boyfriend or girlfriend. It could even be your junior or a client. They bring out the worst in us.Thou most are not able to see this we look at this person as the source of our discomfort rather than see the ugly in us.These kind of people simply act as a catalyst they bring out that which is already within us.They test our patience, they make us angry ,some will even cause us heartbreaks. That part of us they challenge most is where we  need to change. If someone tests your patience maybe they are here to teach you humility or patience. These people push us out of our comfort zone and that is their reason for being in our lives.

They are those who challenge us to be better,to pull up our socks .In them we see what we want to be,they are a representation of our dream. They become role models or even mentors and others are just ordinary people like us who are living the life we secretly desire but our fear holds us back. They are those who come to compliment us ,they help us see our strengths and weaknesses alike. They help us see how much we have grown or changed.Their purpose is to paint a scenario in our lives that is similar to that which somebody else in our past already has. This helps us to see whether we have changed , whether our wounds have healed. Some would call it karma ,but whichever word we use the important thing is to understand what people provoke in us
.
companions and soul-mates
They are those who simply become companions in this life.Soul-mate if i may use that term.Quite often the word soul mate is used in romantic meanings however a soul mate is he/she that understands our soul better than anyone else.It can be a parent,a friend ,brother or sister. These kind of people will come and stay forever. It is up to us to ask ourselves why are the people in our lives there. What role are they playing in our lives,Why are they here? What do we need to learn from them? Or are they teaching us?

 when the season ends

However ,when its all said and done the most difficult part is letting go.Sometimes death may take people away from us.At times they leave on their own and at times jobs, breakups or conflict will take them away.Whichever the case when time comes to leave most of do not know how to let go.We fight against the flow of life and fail to create space for new people and new things when we insist on the statusquo.

We must welcome people into our lives and we must let go when time comes no matter how painful. We must constantly ask ourselves  what are the life situations we are constantly finding ourselves in pointing us to.Why are the people in our lives here? New things will only come when we create space in our lives by letting go the old.

Mirrors unto ourselves: part two
The path of oneness is a path  of healing, a path that above all helps us to tear the veil of separation. One is able to see  and feel the universe as one with the self. Can one be a teacher without a student? can one be a friend without another? can the past be if we do not conceive  the present or the future? Can we have a sunset if there was no sunrise? Can we understand daylight if we have no experience of night?

duality
Duality is not a way of life it is a plague of the present for all of us.However, there comes a time when  one goes beyond duality.Duality collapses as one becomes integrated with all that is  and realizes that one is in all there is,that the separation was a creation of the mind hence of the ego.When this happens, one can then understand such teachings as 'love your neighbor as you love yourself '.Do you ever wonder why Jesus does not say love your neighbor as they love you,or as you would want them to love you or as you love God.When we love another as we love ourselves there  starts the collapse of duality.Just to make sure we do not misunderstand  Him he goes ahead to define who a neighbor is in the story of the good Samaritan.He gives this parable;
"A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’
36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
Collapsing duality
There are  things that no matter how separate we may seem they remind us we are one.Loss of loved ones, Psychological pain, pride, poverty, wealth. The rich man identifies with his wealth just as the poor man identifies with his poverty. How would a social ladder exist if we were all rich or poor. These states are created by the collective ego.It is born in one mind and collectively the separation grows in bounds .Love your neighbor as you love yourself,do unto others as you would have them do unto you. This is not a religious teaching it is a universal and spiritual truth.see beyond the mirror start by dropping judgement of others.

mirrors unto ourselves

When we look at people we see certain virtues and vices in them that we may like or hate in others.Few of us are conscious enough to realize that what we see in others is also in us.Time and again we say and admit to ourselves that nobody is perfect but rarely do we truly understand and accept the truth of those words. It is our imperfections that make us unique.Unfortunately  we criticize others , and overlook our own weaknesses and imperfections. We live as Christ says "we see the speck in our neighbors eye and not the log in our own". This only serves to strengthen the feeling of being better than others, of  wanting to be better than others. This however, is seen and taken by many as a normal thing that is acceptable and a normal way of life.Always striving to be better than someone else, striving to achieve that which others have.

Just think for a moment  why you want the things you strive for.Deep in ourselves we know its because we have seen them being used by others or because others have created the impression its important to have these things. We strive after certain things because we believe they will add value to our lives or to us.

Success
Success is one word that is very much misused in defining certain states we find ourselves in.Without failure there would be no success. How can one appreciate light if one has not experienced darkness.Someone must fail for another to succeed. There can be no success without a comparison to others.A teacher dedicates all his /her  life to teaching.He/she wakes up early to go to work the money he makes is barely enough for his needs but to be a teacher is all he truly wants .Would you describe him as a success or a failure based on his/her financial status,or the social status a teacher holds in the society.

Our success, failure, our sense of worth or importance it is all dependent on others.  We are all people but there are V.I.P or celebrities but even them they can not be without the ordinary and less important being there.Who we think we are is a reflection of others because who we truly are is more than our minds can comprehend.Only rare beings get to know and understand this truth and those rare beings see right through the reflection and understand there has never been a mirror for we are all one.

Signs from the universe; when the universe speaks to us

One day i make a difficult decision  and as i stand outside our house watching the stars i ask myself whether i made the right decision.I silently  make a prayer in my heart asking the universe to send me a sign .A few seconds later as i watch the stars i see a shooting star and am amazed, it feels my heart with delight. At the moment i do not think much of it am just grateful to the universe for allowing me to see that magic.Moments later i have this realization as if almost whispered in my ears by the stars 'its only when its dark that i can see the stars.'I fear darkness, but i have an affinity for stars, they calm my spirit. The universe does answer me and i know there is  a power beyond us all.

coincidences, accidents and synchronicity
Coindences sometimes do happen to show us we are on the right path or to help us change direction. Just by coincidence we meet people that we need to see.Even in the so called cases of being at the wrong place at the right time. When we are in harmony with the flow of the universe accidents, coincidences and synchronicity occur. However not all of us are conscious of what is happening. An accident may occur that stops you from taking part in an event.Hidden behind the outside look of events is a much higher power and flow, where all is in harmony.Looking at it from our view we might call it luck or unfortunate however if we are conscious enough we may just see the miracle of life unfolding and see synchronicity in accidents and coincidences.
One day as i walk to work i see a beautiful bird and as i frantically search my bag for my phone to take a photo i realize i actually left both phones in the house.Well one could say its a lucky coincidence but it all depends on how you view, interpret and live.We at times look for miracles, expect these sighns but when the universe or God speaks we miss them.

In simple things lies the wisdom that even intellectuals will never discover unless they let down their guard and  every now and then let the innocence of their inner child take over.

"But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong."

 things that bind us
There  are  things that imprison us and although we claim to be free we know not we are prisoners. We live as in the case of he who does not know but he knows not that he does not know.I will touch on a few as only each person can seek within and find that which binds them.
expectations
Expectations take away mystery, adventure and beauty out of life. They affect how we interpret the world and in particular the life situations we find ourselves into. The world   is perfect just as it is, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it .It is our desires and wants that deny us from seeing the beauty and mystery of events in our lives. When you have expectations, you already have a preferred way in which you want things to go.When things go otherwise your expectations affect your judgement or blurs your view of what is actually happening. When you expect nothing everything that happens is unexpected,it is new and life is full of adventure and joy.Expectations give rise to assumptions and assumptions limit us from seeing things as they are and without being judgmental.

A story is told of a man who wins a nice new car in a lottery. His friends and relatives  all congratulate him and tell him how lucky he was.All he ever answered was "maybe". A few weeks later he is involved in an accident and the car is damaged beyond recognition.Everyone who saw the car was surprised that anyone could have come out of the wreckage alive. As friends and relatives come to see him in the hospital some say he was so lucky he escaped with his life.Others say winning the lottery was bad luck whereas others say he was just unlucky. All he ever answered was "maybe". Two weeks later while he was still in the hospital recuperating a tsunami hits his home which is built near the beach, everybody who was in the house dies except him as he was in the hospital. Was he just lucky or unlucky? By this man simply refusing to judge the situation by answering 'maybe' he takes no position he simply allows things to happen. He does not burden himself with thoughts of how lucky or unlucky he is.He simply lets things be as everything that happened was outside his control.

towards wholeness:letting go
In the last post i said the path of oneness is a path of letting go.You acquire nothing you are left bare and naked, holding on to nothing. No ego means no pride, letting go expectations, letting go hope,it means total surrender and acceptance of things as they are.All ideas of who you are or think you are fall apart, your ideals, philosophies and believes fall apart .You gain nothing, you become nothing  you become free. In words it might sound poetic maybe even simple however, letting go is one of the most difficult things for humans to do.

letting go the attachment
Having been used to living and doing things with an intention of acquiring success and material things then this becomes a difficult path to walk. Its a path of loosing to become and that which we become is who we truly are and  hence not measurable by any  standards of this world.By loosing i do not mean you give up on your  wealth or what you like or want to be,it means letting go the controlling desire.Letting go the attachment to things means you are able to enjoy freely without fear of loss.If you  were to listen to religious leaders today and motivational speakers they talk of  acquiring, becoming better than the rest, winning and becoming like someone else or as society prescribes success to be. On the path to oneness one is awakened and  is able to see beyond  winning and loosing, one is able to  see  beyond good and bad.

the attachments
We get attached to so many  things in this world ,some of us practically live attached to all things in our life situations.(Remember you are life so what you go through are life situations.)We get attached to our bodies, mind perceptions, ideas, dreams, expectations, friends, jobs, spouses, clothes, money etc.How do you know you are attached? there is no better pointer than emotions. The emotions  we  feel towards things or people can tell us just how attached we are to people and things and that is why we  can only be happy with or about them.Happiness is  caused by  things  without, joy flows from the wellness of  our being, from the fullness of our hearts  from the  depth of our  souls.

journey towards oneness

I must start by admitting that not everyone who will read this blog will understand. However for those who are ready i trust  that this blog will find you in good time.On the journey to awakening some seem like it is their reason for living whereas for others they struggle and put effort to get there.Whichever way one finds themselves on this path does not matter, what matters is what we learn and become.Unlike other paths we follow in life which are about acquiring things outside ourselves this is a path of letting go.Although it promises joy and freedom in itself it can be difficult and at times painful. They are moments of bliss and magic as well as moments of pain and darkness. However those who find it know its their reason for being here, for going through their current karmic cycle.

the call
It starts with a nudge within to find meaning in life. For others it starts with this persistent gnawing inside of discontentment, unhappiness and deep loneliness. The realization that no one and nothing can feel the void inside. For some it is success that feels empty or even meaningless, for others it is loss of a job, divorce or death of a loved one.An event occurs that upsets the current thinking and status quo that one is left with nothing to hold on to anymore. One realizes that nothing and no one can heal the brokenness and complete them.

broken open
The path to oneness leads to ego breakdown. We do not soothe the ego or tone it down but rather it is broken. For one to be free the ego must be broken beyond repair,it is conquered.Jesus said he who wants to enter the kingdom of God must humble like a child.A child is free of the ego and many things that bind us as adults. The path to oneness is a path of healing ,a path back to fullness and wholeness. Its a path that one lets go and acquires nothing in return for that which one becomes is beyond words.freedom, joy and fullness become one with the person.Every time our ego is chattered the universe offers us a chance to be free of it.Observe and realize the things that hurt your ego that could be your first step towards freedom and fullness.Remember you are the sky,you are life ,life situations are like the clouds that hung under the sky and pass but the sky remains.

that which we are
Descartes said "we think so we are", well i have realized there are times i can not switch off my mind from thinking about an issue. What makes me know am separate from my thoughts is the fact that am able to make this observation.I am aware of my thoughts so am not my thoughts , i am the witnessing  presence behind the thoughts.I am aware of what is happening in my mind so i can not be my mind or my thoughts.I would like to define some popular terms we use to define who we are.

a soul
A soul is to the spirit what a heart is to the physical body.A heart and a soul  act like a door, the soul ushers you into the spiritual realm wheareas a heart ushers you out into the physical dimension. The soul connects you with the absolute consciousness whereas the heart connects you to the physical  3D dimension that we live in.Its no wonder then people use the words soul and heart as thou they are one.

the mind
The mind is an instrument of consciousness. It is not who we are, many times i hear people say the value of a person is measure by the content of their mind.So we call people clever or smart, truth is it is from a point of stilllness that creativity is born. Can we live without the mind? yes we can.Think of comatose patients, the brain dies but they are still alive.Consciousness or life is still manifest in them, they may not experience things of the 3d but they are still alive. The ego is that which rules the mind,it is that which takes over and tells us we are whatever the mind says we are.If you find it hard to understand how one can not be free of the mind make a habit of observing your thoughts and emotions and you realize you are not them.

the body
The body is a vehicle for consciouness to manifest.Just as a vehicle is useful only when we are able to use it so is the body.In this 3D world consciouness manifests through bodies, bodies carrying knowledge.A bird,an ant,a crocodile ,a human being all these are bodies through which consciouness has manifested itself. Each has a different level of knowledge but that which we are is the same.WE ARE LIFE.Therefore where life is so are we.Life then is not about the situations or dramas we find ourselves into we are life.Hence without our being alive the world can not be .The world is because we are. if you are not life then what are you?

back to oneness
Somebody asked me what i mean by back to oneness. We are all one i would say, that which makes us as we are is one consciosness or life or spirit or god  or nature it is the same for all of us.Thou our personalities are different beyond the surface in our stillness,in our God self or natural self we are all the same. That which  we believe or know rules the world or dettermines the world is the same. Some believe in God the ceator others in nature, others in the universe or even karma whatever we call it each of us has a part of it in our selves.Call it soul, life or consciousness it is there.Just think in simple terms you need your hair done, your vehicle repaired so many thing on daily basis you depend on someone.Groceries, clothes, electronics,
househelps it is inevitable we need each other in ways that even religion or faith that they practice does not count.when we die the body become so useless that whether we burn it or feed it to animals it would make no difference what truly counts is no more there,consciousness/life.The body is avehicle for consciouness to manifest. The soul is the doorway to being in touch with that consciouness thespirit.

what is consciosness?
It is what we are.How do you experience it? you do not because it is what you are however, once a man i believe descartes said' you think so you are' and  many of us then believe we are whatever the mind says you are.Its no wonder we struggle for titles, recognition, popularity, wealth, marriage and fame because our mind has been conditioned in such a way that we define ourselves with things outside us.So we seek in each other,in things and never find because we do not know that which we seek is who we are.

the mind
The most powerful instrument by the mind or maybe weapon is the ego.For eons man has been made to believe the ego is the most important part of us.It is the sin .Man fell from grace, from naturalness to ego based living and hence the fall of man in the garden of Eden.Maybe i should ask do you ever observe your mind?who does the observation? YOU ARE THAT.The observer.

awakening to the truth ; experience of reality

How do you define the world. What is real about what you call your world.Take for example  before you read this post or this blog you had no idea i existed.I define the world as a sum total of your experiences. In much simpler terms it is your experiences and how you interpret them.It is what you see, taste, smell , how you feel and your interpretation of these senses.I love waking up to the sound of birds chirping in the morning, the feel of the morning sun, listening to the sound of the rain.In essence i am a nature person.Am not into fashion.I am not so into social media.Someone one day told me i was cool, the same day someone else told me i was weird.I love the country side. Others love the city life, they are on twitter,Skype and that to them is what makes their reality. At the end of the day there is nothing wrong with either of us.The social media makes our world seem large and small at the same time.My world is made up of my experiences and interpretations of them and that is what the reality is.To my mother as much as twitter or even Facebook is real to me and you to her its not.It has no room maybe even in her imagination it has no space.Perception is one major factor that affects our interpretation and understanding of reality.I could go on into details on perception and where it stems from but i will save that for  later posts. What i wanted to drive home today is that your reality or what you term as real may not be for me.Where i come from some people strongly believe in witchcraft.I do not know what it is so i do not judge them neither do i dispute their belief i just let  them be.Our perceptions  then affect our understanding and discernment at any given time for example i say time is an illusional  element but space is real.It is space that gives rise to the element we call time,on the other hand space is not an element. If i was to travel from where i am right now to where you are time will change but the space between the two points remain unchanged by movement. For me that is my understanding as much as it may not make sense to many. Our perceptions affect our understanding and discernment of what we term as reality. Your reality then just is your reality it can not be mine or someone else's. When i speak of spiritual things as much as they are real to me i also know to some people they are not and have no room in their reality. My question today is what is your world? How do you perceive reality?

awakening to the truth

My philosophy in life is"To experience is to know" .We only know that which we have experienced either through observation i.e witnessing or personally going through the actual experience. This has not always been my way of understanding life but experience has taught me so.Take for example you observe how people behave when drunk but you will not really know what it is like to be drunk. You can carry a bottle of honey even read about it but you only get to know what it really is when you taste it.No matter how much you read
about sex you can only know what it really is through having intercourse. If i asked you to explain what a rainbow is to a blind man what would you say it is? or better yet define what light is to a blind person in a lay man's language? But light is so real, you experience it everyday, you see it you know its real but exactly what is it? You can only understand it if you experience it. There is experience by observing you witness how a certain disease affect people you may not actually get sick but you have witnessed so you know about it not from reading or hearsay .  We are informed about a lot of things but not all the information is true knowledge. It becomes true knowledge through experience. As children we are taught about God being the creator of the universe, heaven and hell, the devil, and many other things.Only a few brave souls question or dig deeper into the truth of this information.I can hear some of you already arguing how can one experience God? I was brought up a christian and i have nothing against Christianity or any other religion. However as i dug deeper i realized religion is one area where we are well informed but we actually do not have true knowledge because we rarely question religion. Many Christians are believers not knowers.I talk of Christianity because that is the religion that raised me i must emphasize i have nothing against it.There are many things in this life we claim to know but we know not.We at times judge people and situations because having not experienced what others are going through then we have no idea what they feel or their perception. Someone who have found themselves in such a situation have the experience and hence may have better understanding and even compassion. This realization has helped me to forgive people and even to be non judgmental. It has helped me learn how to let people be.How to be an observer rather than a judge of situations and events. I bear in mind that i do not know what i have not experienced. So what do you claim to know and do you really know?
